ROTARY FRIENDS OF NEPEAN EMERGENCY (R-FONE)
THE ROTARY FONE PROJECT WAS LAUNCHED IN 2018
The major aim of this project is to support children and their parents in the Emergency Department (ED) of Nepean Hospital, located in the Western suburbs of Sydney. Approximately 50 children each day pass through the ED. Our volunteers make and distribute Activity Kits that are suitable for 3 different age groups. They contain work books, pencils and stickers to entertain children while they wait for or undergo treatment. Knitted soft toys such as teddies are also distributed and often bring a smile to a small child's face.
Rotary FONE volunteers also assist adult patients and their relatives with refreshments, magazines, warm blankets or a host of other requests. In addition, volunteers manage the used clothing pool for both adults and children as well as recycling cans and bottles to raise funds for medical equipment.
We are always looking for more volunteers who work in pairs for 2 hour shifts. Training and mentoring is offered.
